Mt Maria College, Petrie has announced an important milestone in its journey of growth and renewal, confirming that from 2027 the College will be known as St Marcellin Catholic College.
Principal Kerry Maher said the new name was the result of extensive consultation with parents, students and staff over the past two years and reflected a shared hope for the future of the College.
“Over the last two years, we have spent considerable time listening to our community and learning about their hopes for the future,” Ms Maher said.
Ms Maher said a strong and consistent message emerged from those conversations, which was a desire for continuous improvement, a clear sense of purpose and a confident identity that supports young people to flourish.
“Our community expressed a clear hope that we continue to provide the very best learning environment for our students,” she said.
“This is about ensuring our young people grow as confident, capable and faith-filled young adults, and that our College is proactive in shaping its future.”
The new name reflects the College’s strong and authentic Marist identity and honours St Marcellin Champagnat, founder of Marist education.
“Naming our College in honour of St Marcellin Champagnat affirms the mission and values that are already at the heart of our community,” Ms Maher said.
“It is a confident expression of who we are and who we are becoming, a Catholic, Marist learning community dedicated to helping every student grow in faith, learning and character.”
The transition to St Marcellin Catholic College also reflects the College’s aspirations for the future, including a strong culture of high expectations for learning and wellbeing.
“A distinct College identity strengthens our learning environment and helps us clearly communicate who we are and what we stand for,” Ms Maher said.
“This change is intrinsically linked to our ongoing focus on high-quality, evidence-based teaching, student wellbeing and excellent outcomes across flexible academic and vocational pathways, within a faith-filled community that fosters belonging and respectful relationships.”
