Mt Maria College Petrie is a Catholic Archdiocesan Co-educational Secondary College. It is located next to Our Lady of the Way primary school and the Catholic Church in Petrie. The College was established by Brisbane Catholic Education in 1987 and was originally named "Kolbe College" after Saint Maximillian Kolbe from whom our College motto "Lead by Example" derives. Following a review in2002 a number of recommendations were accepted including changing the name to Mt Maria College Petrie from the start of 2003.
One of the main strengths of the College continues to be the provision of highly sought Inclusive Education to students in Years 8-12. We do this by fostering and promoting an atmosphere of acceptance and a celebration of diversity. These values are paramount to our existence. We value and nurture positive relationships built on trust and respect for the dignity of each individual.
Central to our existence is the genuine concern for each student's academic, spiritual and personal development. Our College continues to offer a wide range of educational opportunities to students from a diverse academic and social background. The increased demand for places into Year 11 suggested that we should "open up" our enrolments into Year 11 and 12. This was put in place in 2009. The multiple pathways program offered to all students is a major attraction with particular interest in the Vocational Education Program available to all students in Years 11/12. The College does not offer an OP pathway.
Above all we aim to provide a caring and inclusive Catholic environment. Our College community is inspired by St Maximillian Kolbe and St Marcellin Champagnat and we live by values such as humility, simplicity, family spirit and love of Mary and Jesus. These values form the focus of the Marist Spirituality. Mt Maria College Petrie was officially welcomed into the Marist family of schools and Colleges in 2010 when we became part of Marist Schools Australia (MSA).
As a Catholic College, Mt Maria College Petrie aims to educate young people by fostering an atmosphere of acceptance and celebration of diversity. Students are encouraged through a supportive Christian Community to do their best in whatever they undertake.
