Vocational Education and Training (VET)

​Mt Maria College Petrie has an extensive Vocational Education and Training (VET) program, providing students opportunities to develop valuable employability skills that will help to support their preparation for the future world of work. Students are encouraged to participate in the Vocational Education program offerings – either within the curriculum or through school-based traineeships and/or apprenticeships and external VET courses.

Mt Maria College Petrie provides the opportunity for every student to succeed, and for every student to plan a pathway to enable them to lead a productive life beyond Year 12. The College has a Career Education program from Years 7-10 and opportunities in vocational education from years 10 to 12.  This program includes:​​

  • Certificate I in Employment Pathways (elective in Year 10)
  • Short Course in Sport, Fitness & Recreation (elective in Year 10)
  • Career exploration sessions
  • Individual career profiling
  • Work experience Year 11 & 12 (optional)
  • Excursions to career expos
  • Opportunities to attend local University Open Days
  • Trade Taster experiences at TAFE (Year 10)
  • TAFE @ School (Years 11 & 12) - one day a week
  • School Based Apprenticeships and/or Traineeships (Years 11 & 12)
