 Work Education

Vocational Education, Careers, Work Education and Structured Work Placement

tangalooma.jpgThe College has a whole school approach to career education. In
Year 8 students research their future in Year 9 we build on to this information, in Year 10 all students undertake either Certificate I in Work education or Certificate I in Work Readiness and our seniors undertake Certificate II in Workplace practices.
Our program is supplemented by visiting careers expos and inviting relevant guest speakers to enlighten the students on such topics as “Your rights in the Workplace”, What it is like to work in the Defence Force”, Senior Education and Training Planning, School Based Traineeships and Apprenticeships.
Students are also able to access myfuture, Career Compass and Career Voyage and many of them regularly access the career tangalooma2.jpginformation held in the library. Although Work Education has been an integral part of the Year 10 curriculum for many years.
The College is an RTO for Certificate I in Work Education, Certificate II in Workplace Practices and Certificate I in Work Readiness. This has been very beneficial to many students in Years 10, 11 and 12 who have gained one of these certificates and now have 2 or 4 points banked in their learning accounts to contribute towards their Queensland Certificate of Education.
As a compulsory module of all the certificates students must complete Structured Workplace Learning (SWL), where they fine tune all the
skills and knowledge they have learnt throughout the year. Our
sincere thanks go out to all our host employers who guided our
students tangalooma3.jpgthrough this task.
Year 10 students also collected many certificates for their portfolios, including Workplace Health and Safety and CPR. The portfolios containing their up to date resumes and all relevant certificates will be
a great asset to them in their future lives.
All Year 12 students involved in school based traineeships have successfully completed the year and are now ready to take their skills into the workforce.
This year we have had students in Years 10, 11 and 12 involved in
