National Partnerships on Literacy and Numeracy

The Australian Government has committed $540 million to drive improvement in the foundational learning areas of literacy and numeracy. The National Partnership with States and Territories aims for more students to achieve above the national minimum standard in literacy and numeracy, allowing Australian students to progress successfully through their schooling and actively participate in the workforce and contribute to their community in future years.
The National Partnership with fund a range of reforms and initiatives to accelerate improvement in literacy and numeracy outcomes in targeted schools.
Queensland will implement a range of reforms under three strategic focus areas:
  • Strong school leadership and whole school engagement with literacy and numeracy.
  • Effective and evidence based teaching of literacy and numeracy
  • Monitoring student and school literacy and numeracy performance to identify where support is needed.

Mt Maria is a National Partnership School and as such we are asked to highlight areas of need in our school. Mt Maria’s implementation plan looks at Student Data Collection as a priority and also the implementation of a new literacy program, Reading to Learn. The National Partnership Program supports the plan with funding as well as providing the school with a Literacy and Numeracy Improvement Teacher.
